"Sport gives me energy and satisfaction. With sport I can demand the maximum from myself, so it creates challenges." (nationalesportweek.nl, 29 Jul 2019)
In August 2021 he broke his ankle during the first session of a training camp in Courmayeur, Italy. (schaatsen.nl, 29 Aug 2021)
To compete at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan-Cortina. (schaatsen.nl, 14 Feb 2022)
    EDUCATION
In 2018 he began studying law at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. "Being in college puts everything into perspective a bit. If I only focused on skating, I would go crazy. I think it is also important to hang out with 'normal' or non-sports people." (dub.uu.nl, 22 Feb 2019; Facebook profile, 14 Nov 2018)
He was introduced to short track by a friend. "I used to want to become a professional footballer. The choice was not so difficult. In football, I could never have further achievements. Short track is a tough sport, that's what I like about it. It is man-to-man, in contrast to speed skating where time is leading. In short track you fight for your place and you want to do that as well as possible."
