SYNCHRONIZED SKATING

Les Suprêmes skate off with fourth gold at ISU Synchronized Skating World Championships 2026

11 Apr 2026

Les Suprêmes of Canada skated off with their fourth World title as the ISU Synchronized Skating World Championships 2026 wrapped up with an incredible final full of suspense Saturday in Salzburg, Austria. The World’s best Synchronized teams treated the enthusiastic capacity crowd at the Salzburgarena with fascinating performances at the highest level.

Les Suprêmes’ (CAN) golden comeback

The suspense lasted until the last program and the last score but in the end Les Suprêmes of Canada flew high to claim their fourth World title. The Haydenettes (USA) took silver while Finland’s defending ISU World Champions Helsinki Rockettes captured the bronze.

This is how sweet redemption feels: Les Suprêmes delivered a strong performance to “The Firebird” that was highlighted by an impressive intersection and group lift. The team demonstrated great unison and technical skill, earning a level four for all seven elements. However, one fall in the pivoting block at the end cost some points and the Canadian Champions ranked fourth in the Free Skating at 149.76 points. Overall, they defended their overnight lead and took the title with almost four points to spare at 233.00 points. The Canadians now have won four World medals and all of them are gold.

"I think it just shows all of our hard work for the last two seasons,” team captain Olivia di Giandomenico said. “Even though last season wasn't the outcome that we wanted, we never gave up and we worked super hard this year with two new programs and the same goal in mind, but you have to put in the work to get there,” she continued.

"We had a really great team chemistry this season and we worked really well together and I think that's why it brought success for our team,” team captain Julia Bernardo noted.

The Canadians especially enjoyed their “Firebird” program this season.

“It's a very classic piece, but our coaches wanted to do something different, something that's new and never really done before,” di Giandomenico explained. “So they took different pieces of music, and we built the program around that, and tried to encapsulate the Firebird as best as we can. We hope that it showed on the ice. We also brought some ideas to the coaches, we tested things out, and that was a really fun process during the summer to create our free."

A meaningful silver medal for The Haydenettes

The Haydenettes continued their success from the Short Program with another beautiful program set to “Somewhere Only We Know”. Six out of the seven element merited a level four and the team from Boston achieved a season's best of 149.98 points in the Free Skating which added up to 229.28 points total. It was the eighth ISU World medal for the U.S. Champions and their second silver medal.

This result did not come easily to the Americans as they had to overcome injuries and illnesses in their team this season.

“The team culture is always to work hard, no matter if you're skating, if you're not, whatever it is,” team captain Taylor Olender pointed out. “The goal is just to have one united team, and this year's theme was really unity for our team. Unity was our strength. We stayed together through all of the hard times and the good times as well. And so, I think staying together as a team was really what motivates everybody, and seeing other people and your teammates keep going, it pushes you to be stronger."

Her teammate Paige Felton agreed: "Our theme was ‘Somwhere Only We Know’ and at the beginning of the season the team had decided that the theme was going to represent what it was like to be on the Haydenettes, especially this season between our team members. With the injuries that we had, it kind of became a deeper meaning for our team and really show our unity. So we hope that we were able to bring that story forward today."

Helsinki Rockettes fight back

Sitting in fourth place after the Short Program because of two uncharacteristic falls, the Helsinki Rockettes were ready to fight back. They were on fire in their Spanish themed routine from the musical “Bienvenido a la vida”, flying through their program and won the Free Skating segment with a seasons best of 156.23 points. The Finns pulled up one spot to take the bronze at 228.67 points. They took home their tenth ISU World medal.

“We felt really good the whole day and we were emotional even before we were going on the ice in the warm-up,” team captain Evaliina Tikkinen shared. “Then we went on the ice with all those emotions and we just enjoyed every second on the ice. It was an amazing day."

The bronze medal means a lot to the team. “In the beginning of the season half of our team came from juniors, so we had a quite new team and the journey we have in this season is so amazing and how we developed during the whole season. Now the bronze medal is winning for us,” Tikkinen added.
