The future starts right here: The ISU Figure Skating Junior Grand Prix series 2026/27 kicks off with the first stop in Xi’an, China August 20-22. Rising stars are eager to get their name out on the ice in Xi’an in the first of seven enthralling events and are looking to collect precious points towards the ISU Figure Skating Junior Grand Prix Final in December. This marks the first time that Xi’an is hosting an ISU Figure Skating Junior Grand Prix event.

Whom to Watch in Xi’an
- Yanhao Li (NZL): Already a seasoned competitor on the junior circuit, Yanhao Li made history by becoming the first skater from New Zealand to win an ISU Figure Skating Junior Grand Prix and to reach the ISU Figure Skating Junior Grand Prix Final. Entering his fifth Junior Grand Prix season, Li is setting his sights on the very top of the podium.
- Patrick Blackwell (USA): After claiming two silver medals on the junior circuit in 2024 and 2025, the skater from Boston is pursuing his first JGP title.
- Lev Lazarev (AIN2): A newcomer on the JGP, the 16-year-old nevertheless is a top contender with multiple quads in his arsenal.
- Kaoruko Wada (JPN): The 2024/25 ISU Junior Grand Prix Final silver medalist headlines a competitive Women’s field.
- Sofiia Dzepka (AIN2): Competing in her first ISU JGP, the 16-year-old is expected to challenge for the podium.
- Yuxuan Chen & Yinbo Dong (CHN): The ISU JGP finalists aim to shine on home ice to continue the strong tradition of Chinese pair skating.

What happens in the ISU Figure Skating Junior Grand Prix?
- The ISU Figure Skating Junior Grand Prix series consists of seven events in seven countries that happen within seven weeks
- The skaters/couples collect points in their ISU Figure Skating Junior Grand Prix events and the top six in each discipline from the series qualify for the ISU Junior Grand Prix Final
- The two finals for junior and senior level skaters are held together
- The ISU Figure Skating Junior Grand Prix series starts in August and ends in December
